The football season is upon us again. Hurrah! We don't talk about the League Cup of course because, East Fife, like Dundee United, are out before it's even really began so we turn our attention to the league season which starts today.
Methil in Fife is our choice to kick things off this season and it's Bayview Stadium which will become ground number 11 on the tour. We'd written ahead to the club and they advised it was £15 entry and the Club Shop was located just outside the main entrance. We're all set so off we go. It's a lovely drive through Fife and we locate the ground easily. Once again there's ample free parking right next to the ground. We've still only had to pay for parking once.
We arrive in plenty of time so it's selfie time and "fingers crossed the shop has a pin badge" time.
Pin badge secured but £4.00 leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I think £2.50 - £3.00 is about right for a pin badge myself. We're impressed with Bayview from the outside. There's one modern stand and three open terraces. Naturally we're in the stand with the home support and have a great view of the action.
We decide on food at half time today so more on that later. There's a great sense of anticipation in the air as the season is about to kick off and Dumbarton are the favourites today having just been relegated from the Championship through the play offs. The game is pretty even as both teams try to figure each other out and we get to half time goalless.
Pie time and we're delighted to report that The Fifers pie was great. We were wary after the Cowdenbeath incident but it's a delicious pie here and we wanted more! David was happy as he gets out for a cigarette so ticks all around really/
Everyone is in the stand today, i'm not sure if the terracing is ever used here to be honest but there didn't seem any need anyway. The Dumbarton fans are away to our left and very soon they'd be celebrating as early in the second half The Sons take the lead. Soon after it's two and game over. East Fife huffed and puffed but never looked like getting back into the game and with that it was another away win for our stats.
Bayview is a small modern stadium which is perfect for the club and the area. We couldn't fault it at all. Good views, good food and good fans around us. I hope the club has a successful season for them. £4.00 for a pin badge though! Side note - the club did email me a few days later asking how we enjoyed our visit and explained the pin badge price was dictated by the supplier. Fair enough. They also said if we're ever back in Methil again to let them know and they'd give us a tour of the board room etc. Nice.
Ground number 11 done. Where to next I wonder? Well actually I don't wonder because I know. It's Arbroath. See you there.
