13/42 - Stark's Park, Kirkcaldy

18th August 2018
Ground Number: 13
Ground: Stark's Park, Kirkcaldy
Home of: Raith Rovers FC
Match: Raith Rovers V East Fife
Score: 2-2
Attendance: 2025

Back into Fife we go then for the second time in three weeks. Also for the second time in three weeks we're watching East Fife today. We are not East Fife fans. Honest! Kirkcaldy is the venue, or rather Stark's Park, for ground number 13 of the tour. Home of Raith Rovers. They once danced in these streets I believe....

We get parked up easily on the Kirkcaldy sea front and it's a short stroll up the hill towards the ground. As always, we're in with the home fans so the South Stand is where we shall park ourselves for the match. The other option would've been the, rather strange, Main Stand. More on that later.  £15 entry today with prices well displayed outside the ground. The Club Shop is located just inside the South Stand and inside we find the cheapest pin badge of the tour so far. £1.00!! One solitary pound. Utter bargain! Well done Rovers!

We emerge from the South Stand concourse and find our seats halfway up the stand and it's one of the few times we're located behind the goal. Cracking view though!

I mentioned the Main Stand and it's a strange one. It actually reminds me of the old Main Stand at Tannadice in that it hugs one corner of the ground and runs only half the length of the pitch. Why is this? Did they run out of money when building it? Space? Didn't need the capacity? Regardless we do like it. It's quaint and its different.

The other side of the ground is entirely unfinished. Again, it's like they started building it and then either ran out of money or realised they didn't need it. Maybe it's finished now, I don't know but it wasn't accessible when we visited. A shame really as it would really finish off the ground nicely.

The South Stand and (I presume) North Stand are identical large capacity stands behind each goal with the North housing the travelling fans. Onto the match then and it was quite incredible. 4 goals. 3 penalties. Two teams really going at each other. Everything brilliant about Scottish football really.

Rovers were well on top early on and duly took the lead from the spot. East Fife equalised shortly late. Also from the spot and at half time we were all square. Half time and that means food so off we go for our pie. Or so I thought! David broke one of the rules today! "Oh those burgers look good" he said. "Yes but we have a pie David" I said. I was over ruled! He got a burger and as it turns a very good one at that. 9/10 Impressive stuff. The pie? Decent.

Into the second half and the Fifers are on top! They take the lead just after the hour mark and the home fans are not happy! Rovers do get back into the match quickly and, naturally, it's from the spot! Three penalties in one game. Incredible and great for the neutrals like us!

That's how it finished. An absolute thriller. A great match and a funny old stadium. A mix of old and new. A mixture of finished and, well, unfinished. A great passionate home support and a brilliant club shop. Great burgers too apparently.

That was Stark's Park. We danced back to the car just to say we'd danced in the streets of Raith....

Off we go to Stenhousemuir next.
